How To Produce A Small Dog Harness With Grosgrain Ribbon
The smaller a dog is, the harder it is to find them a harness which will fit them correctly. This tutorial will show you how to make a custom fitting smaller dog harness using grosgrain ribbon.
*NOTE* the materials utilized for this harness are suitable for little dogs weighing 10 pounds and under only! If you wish to make this style of harness for a larger dog you must use a sturdier material like nylon webbing.
Tools and Supplies
For this project you will need; a sewing machine, a plastic snap, D-ring and slider, a marking pen, scissors, pins, one large hole bead and three feet of any kind of ribbon that you wish. The size from the hardware is dependent on the width on the ribbon that you just select to use.
Action 1 - Adding The Slider
Run one end of the ribbon over the bar with the slider and sew two seams to secure it.
Stage 2 - Adding The Snap
Thread the ribbon by means of the snap as well as the back over the bar of the slider.
Move 3 - Threading The Ribbon Through the Pony Bead
Around the middle in the ribbon, fold it in half and thread it through the pony bead in order that a loop comes out about the other side. Make the loop wide sufficient to ensure that it will fit more than your dog's head.
Stage 4 - Adding the D-ring
Thread the ribbon as a result of the D-ring and then through the free end of the snap.
Step 5 - Fitting The Harness
Undo the snap and place the loop around the head of your respective dog. Take the loose ends of the snap and reconnect them. This is the time to adjust the harness as required. Leave a little "play" inside the slider end on the harness making sure that it might be adjusted when the harness has been finished. Pull the ribbon snugly against your dog.
Uncover the center of your respective dogs back and bring the D-ring into position. Mark the position with the D-ring with a marker.
Stage 6 - Finishing The Harness
Once you've taken the harness off of your respective dog, you can pin the ribbon in position. Trim the end in the ribbon making sure that you'll find about 2″ remaining. With the ribbon that you've cut off, measure 3″, cut and center more than the D-ring. Pin the piece in location and sew dual seams on all stress points.
